MCI Datacom sees merger as springboard into Asia

 • 01 September, 2004 09:41

Sydney, September 1. Data security specialist MCI Datacom announced today that it has signed an unconditional contract to merge its business with network security and technology company PT InterIndo Global, based in Jakarta, Indonesia. The merger follows months of due diligence by both companies.

MCI Datacom offers a managed security service that packages security hardware, internet connectivity, detailed reporting and technical support. Australia’s first Fortinet Platinum partner, the company utilises Fortinet's FortiGate™ series of ASIC-accelerated antivirus firewalls, and other Fortinet products.

MCI Datacom primarily uses Fortinet hardware due to its robust architecture and unique features including anti-spam, intrusion detection and virus protection all contained within one security appliance.

Gavin Matthews, MCI Datacom CIO said: “The merger with InterIndo gives us a springboard into Asia, leveraging PT InterIndo Global’s national and international resources which include considerable local market experience. MCI Datacom plans to expand its products and services into Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia within the next 12 months.”

MCI Datacom has achieved substantial growth over the past six months, signing major corporates under its innovative Managed Security Service Provider model. This packages security hardware, internet connectivity, detailed reporting and technical support.

Gavin Matthews said: “Our growth can be attributed to the current conditions which place IT security at a premium. The proliferation of viruses, trojans and spam, and their convergence into blended threats, means that organisations are spending more on protecting the integrity of their data and networks. As security becomes increasingly complex, companies are looking to outsource more to industry experts.”

PT Interindo Global has enjoyed sustained growth over the past few years within government and private sectors. The company has advanced a number of strategic relationships within the telecommunications and network security industry, which form the foundation of the merger with MCI Datacom.

The Chief Operating Officer of PT Interindo Global, Ricky Natapradja said: “We are pleased with the MCI Datacom relationship, which will help us to build our business internationally and leverages from MCI Datacom’s dynamic team of IT professionals. As a growing Asian business, we offer MCI Datacom an opportunity to leverage our infrastructure and key business relationships to improve group earnings and return to shareholders.”

MCI Datacom and PT Interindo global will join forces under the banner of Seccom Networks, a name chosen to signify the strength of both businesses within the network security space. Seccom will offer Managed Security services throughout Asia, principally to medium and large enterprises.
