Netgear takes support to corporate levels

Networking vendor, Netgear, has launched a range of new services to support its efforts to win more installations in bigger Australian companies.

The program includes next-day and four-hour parts exchange for wireless, VPN firewall and managed switching as well as the replacement of defective equipment before it is returned. As a knock-on effect, this will create additional revenue streams for channel partners capable of providing that support.

“To say we are targeting enterprise would be making it sound more grandiose than it really is but we are going into bigger companies,” managing director of Netgear Asia, Ian McLean said. “We are not going after the likes of Cisco but they are moving up the food chain and we are following them.”

McLean said Netgear had traditionally focused on companies with up to 100 users but had recently moved up to those with up to 250 users.

Some of its Layer 3 switching products, he said, were now being used by even bigger companies and the range of next day or four-hour support services it had introduced was a natural progression enabling it to compete seriously in that space. Netgear did not, to his knowledge, offer that level of support anywhere else in the world.

With the top-end systems integrators and major tier-one value-added resellers (VARs) tied in to major vendors, according to McLean, he would primarily be looking for partners just below that level to help Netgear engineer a move up the food chain.
