IT Wholesale has been appointed as the exclusive Australian distributor of IBM Retail Store Solutions after the vendor decided to move the products through the channel rather than selling direct.
IBM said the range — which includes point-of-sale systems and kiosks as well as displays, keyboards, cash drawers, printers and scanners — was used widely in speciality retail sectors as well as grocery, fuel and convenience outlets.
A spokesperson for the vendor said IBM was looking to extend its reach into the market and picked IT Wholesale because it was well connected in that space.
She said the distributor would also be able to streamline customer access to other IBM products.
IT Wholesale, which has been an IBM distributor for seven years, has been set an annual sales target of $1 million.
“To be appointed as the exclusive Australian distributor of these products is a big vote of confidence in our capabilities,” IT Wholesale general manager, Darryl Tucker, said. “It also opens up a new market for us in the retail store sector.”
IT Wholesale will push the IBM Retail Store through its existing dealer base but is also looking to appoint new resellers.
“There are a lot of resellers doing point-of-sale equipment that we don’t touch,” said Tucker. “We have a few people in mind, have been given some referrals by IBM and expect to get further recommendations from other people in the industry.”
