<p>SYDNEY, NSW, August 27, 2003 HP has turned to Australian software developers to create mobile phone services for global telecommunications companies.
HP is holding partnership talks in Sydney and Melbourne this month with organisations interested in working on development projects.
HP is one of the world's largest suppliers of telecommunications applications with more than 15 billion SMS messages sent across its software every month. The company works closely with developers throughout the world, however is yet to work alongside an Australian organisation.
"Telecommunications companies are hungry for new revenue generating mobile applications and we believe Australian developers could fill this void," said Paul Muller, HP Software marketing manager, HP Australia.
"Australia has a sophisticated mobile telecommunications environment which is underpinned by the innovation of local developers. HP now wants to take this knowledge to global markets through partnerships with a small number of committed organisations."
As part of the partnership, HP will market and sell the applications globally in conjunction with providing expert development advice, loaning of hardware and access to development tools.
HP is interested in marketing a wide variety of applications for traditional mobile services and emerging ones such as 3G, using the OpenCall platform.

With more than 1,600 installations in 100 countries worldwide, HP OpenCall is the world's leading SS7 software stack and number one software for Service Control Points and SMS.</p>
