GE subsidiary buys Ferntree

US-based Technology Management Services (TMS), a GE Capital Services company and a wholly owned subsidiary of General Electric, has purchased high-end reseller and systems integrator Ferntree for an undisclosed sum. Ferntree, with more than 700 employees throughout Australia, will retain its corporate name.

Ferntree CEO Norman McCann promises good things will come from the acquisition. "This is a milestone that will benefit our employees, our business partners and, especially, our customers, who can expect enhanced services from the same management and staff. We can now, for example, pursue a wider range of opportunities, particularly with respect to outsourcing," he said.

Are any high-level sackings expected, following the acquisition? "Other than the board, no. The strength of Ferntree's management and staff is one of the reasons TMS bought it," said a Ferntree spokesman. "This will be a platform for TMS to use as its Asia Pacific base."
