Dick Smith Electronics has revamped its Web site (www.dse.com.au) a year after it was launched, following significant consumer interest in Australia and overseas.
Surprising to Dick Smith Electronics, and one of the reasons the site has the new look, was the amount of interest from overseas in purchasing products.
"We had to put up more infor-mation about products and how they could be purchased - the overseas interest was something we didn't really expect," said Rachelle Connor, public relations and promotions manager for Dick Smith Electronics.
The site, which is currently receiving 250 hits a day, utilises Informix Illustra software to maintain a database of products which, in time, will grow to house the entire product range at Dick Smith Electronics - over 4000-plus products.
Conner said in establishing the site security was the biggest issue - both for the customer and the company alike.
"Making customers feel that their credit card numbers are secure was an issue, but also on our side, the site requires maintenance and to do that it needs to be linked to our system in-house and there are security issues there too," she said.
