Texas Instruments unpacks TravelMate notebooks

Texas Instruments says heavyweight performance is on offer from its new line of lightweight notebooks. Available in August, the TravelMate 6020 and 6030 check in at 2.7kg and 2.9kg respectively and, according to TI director of marketing David Finn, they include a component list that at first glance might appear to be that of a multimedia desktop PC.

TheÊTravelMate's multimedia capabilities include Zoomed Video Port technology for use with MPEG full-motion video playback, modular 6X CD-ROM and 16-bit full-duplex audio. Vital statistics for the 6020: 120 MHz Pentium processor, 1.08Gb hard disk, 8Mb RAM and a 28.8Kbit/sec modem. RRP: $7,499. The 6030: 133MHz Pentium processor, 1.35Gb hard disk, 16Mb RAM and a 28.8Kbit/sec modem. RRP: $8,499. Both models include a 40-watt hour enhanced Lithium-ion battery.

TI will ship both models with Windows 95 and Windows for Workgroups installed and they are backed up by TI's three-year limited warranty on parts and labour. Upon request, TI will ship the models with Windows NT.
