Apple's plan to roll out a network of franchised retail stores has hit a roadblock in the form of a lukewarm reaction from resellers, who were Apple's intended franchisees.
Soon after Apple announced its plans last month, industry rumours began to circulate that the first retail store would open in Chatswood, Sydney sometime during September. However, Apple now says the first store will open "sometime in early 1997", according to Apple's Sue Sara. "We've been consulting our reseller channel all along the way. We reached a point where it made sense to reevaluate some aspects of the plan." Additionally, it is unlikely Chatswood will now be the site of the first store, according to a source close to Apple.
