The claimed size and success of the PC shows held in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane have prompted the organiser, Australian Exhibition Services (AES), to refocus the shows as a complete IT exhibition.
The first show in the new format will be the upcoming one in Melbourne. Now known as the PC-IT '97, it will be held from 2Ð5 September at the new Melbourne Exhibition Centre (MEC).
"We've surveyed exhibitors and visitors, and found they were getting tired of multiple shows," said Gordon Whiteside, exhibition director at AES. "We decided to take the PC show and build it into a single definitive IT event.
"Exhibitors will be grouped into feature areas," said Whiteside. "Also helping the visitor will be our product locater."
Featured at Melbourne will be Ian Penman, managing director of Compaq Australia, and Paul Burrin, marketing director of Oracle Australia.
"With these changes we're moving the format of the show closer to that of Comdex and Cebit," Whiteside added.
"We believe the exhibitors and visitors will all be winners."
