VTEL sets up in Australia

VTEL Corporation has announced that it will acquire the videoconferencing division of its Australia and New Zealand distributor, CSG Communications and set up an Australian base in Melbourne.

US-based VTEL is a videoconferencing company which designs and makes SmartVideo- conferencing systems.

For the last three years, CSG has been the sole distributor of VTEL products in Australia and New Zealand.

The deal will see CSG continue to provide ongoing service, project management and help desk facilities. "VTEL intends to expand the videoconferencing market in Australia by developing relationships with a variety of distribution partners," said Frank Kaplan, VTEL's vice-president of international salesAccording to Douglas Dobbs, VTEL director of Asia/Pacific sales, "Establishing operations in Australia is a key component to expanding VTEL's presence in the Asia/Pacific region." The company also plans to set up in Malaysia and China by mid-1997.
