US company, Tyan Computer, has announced the appointment of Focal Point Computing as Australian distributor of its high performance motherboard products.
The appointment will see Focal Point carry a full range of Pentium and Pentium Pro motherboards, from high performance cost-effective units to high-end fully featured and expandable units in single and dual processor configurations.
The deal was reached at Comdex last year by Focal Point's directors, Andrew Tilly and Giulio Zappone.
Jeffrey Mentiplay, marketing manager for Focal Point, believes Tyan's products will offer excellent synergies with Focal Point's current product lines. "At present we are focused on providing high performance peripherals mainly in the graphics area to the wholesale market," he said. "We looked for a motherboard product to provide our dealers with a high end solution to complement our high end graphics solutions."
"Tyan has a very close working relationship with Intel, and they are able to produce across the board a product that is fast, highly compatible, able to cope with a range of CPUs, and also be highly reliable," Mentiplay said.
Tyan's products are designed in the US and manufactured in Taiwan, something Mentiplay views as a strength. "You are tying in the Taiwan quality with US know-how. All of them are fully featured and include the universal serial bus, and are ready for the next generation of upgrades."
According to Mentiplay, Tyan is pioneering a prototype of a functioning AGP motherboard, and is on the cutting edge with releasing the new Intel ATX chip set motherboard.
