Two South Australian companies were merged last month when network computer specialist Camtech acquired the issued capital of Communica Systems, a Unix software specialist.
Communica has been consolidated into Camtech's Adelaide headquarters where the companies will operate under the Camtech banner but will maintain Communica as a consulting and services division. Chris Clarkson, Communica co-founder, will remain as manager of the Communica division.
Camtech CEO, Bruce Linn, believes the merger places the new Camtech group as a major player in the network computer architecture business. "Both Communica and Camtech have been operating in this market for some time.
"We felt the companies were very synergistic in our consulting and training divisions and that a merger seemed like a sensible idea to get to critical mass market to enable us to grow to the next stage," Linn said.
"We are looking to extend our business into other states, most particularly Western Australia and Victoria where we already have small offices, and also into South-East Asia."
All staff and contractors were retained after the merger, which now sees the expanded company employing 55 people.
