NEC's rewritable PD-CD drives will now be available to Guardian Data's 800 dealers following the signing of a distribution between the two companies.
Guardian Data's managing director, Doug Timbrell, said his company specifically sought access to the PD-CD drives to augment their portfolio of data storage products. As well as being fully rewritable, the PD-CD drive will also read standard CD-ROM disks.
Timbrell said the drives are also significantly faster than a number of competitive products, such as the Iomega Zip and Jaz drives.
Guardian Data will seek to promote the products into a number of vertical markets where backup units are required, including government, legal firms and publishing houses. The company will also add value to the products by combining them with other components to offer a number of specialised devices to dealers.
NEC information systems group product manager Julian Walthew said Guardian Data approached NEC seeking distribution rights.
He said the new arrangement represents a greater opportunity for NEC to push its products into the backup and storage market.
