What do you do when you just can't sleep for worrying about the equipment you have to order tomorrow?
Simple, get on the Internet and order it right away. A number of Australian distributors have recently set up, or are preparing, Web-based information and ordering systems which will allow resellers to check stock levels and place orders at any time of the day.
One such company is Melbourne-based BBF Components and Peripherals. System administrator Nathan Kroenert explained to ARN that BBF's system has been running since late last year, and now takes a fair percentage of the company's orders from resellers.
"We quickly found that being able to take orders after-hours, and without requiring resellers to sit on the phone for long periods, gave us a huge advantage over other distributors," said Kroenert.
"That especially applies to interstate resellers as they can collect their e-mail while visiting us to place an order or download the latest price list."
BBF's Web site is at www.bbf.com.au. Resellers must apply for a username and password before they can gain access to dealer-specific areas such as the one shown here (see above).
BBF has now changed its after-hours phone message to invite resellers to visit the Web site instead of waiting until the next day to phone back. As Kroenert says, "Our aim is to make it easier for the reseller to do business with BBF."
BBF distributes ATI, Banksia, Dataset software, NovaStor backup software, Gigabyte motherboards, LG Electronics, Kodak, Oki printers, Pine peripheral cards, Primax scanners, Sola UPSs, Sony computer products, Wisetek and Intel.
