Digital Equipment has announced a worldwide reorganisation of its business units in an effort to consolidate product activities and strengthen sales and marketing.
After July 1 this year, Digital's Systems Business and Personal Computer Business Units will become the new Digital Products Division, and its sales and marketing activities will be integrated into a worldwide sales and marketing group.
Patrick O'Halloran, director of corporate communications for Digital Australia, said ensuring the customer interface is not unduly affected by the restructure is a primary concern.
"We're trying to make it transparent to our customers and business partners, so they will probably see very little change initially," he said.
"They will then have a single point of contact with Digital, whether they are buying Intel or Alpha-based products, we're trying to make the company easier to do business with."
