Distributor of multimedia and Internet products, Firmware Design has been appointed the Australian distributor of NetObjects Fusion, Web site construction software.
According to the managing director of Firmware, Marius Coomans, NetObjects Fusion from American developer NetObjects is aimed at the graphic design and corporate markets, positioned against products such as Frontpage and Pagemill. He said what sets NetObjects Fusion apart from the other products is that it is designed to be friendly for graphic designers.
"We see a lot of graphic designers moving into the marketplace," said Coomans, "people who have a creative bent rather than programming, and I think NetObjects Fusion is very well suited for that. What NetObjects Fusion has done is really given designers the same metaphors they use in PageMaker or Quark Express."
The program takes a site-wide view of constructing a Web site, as opposed to assembling individual pages. This means it takes control of the whole site, so that if the style of one page is changed, it will update the remaining pages. Coomans said this feature makes it possible to maintain consistency on a site which many people are working on simultaneously.
"You don't want to make it a technical effort for those people to add content to the site," he added.
Some features of NetObjects Fusion version 2.0 include graphical ticker tape, a site mapping module, bulletin board system, 51 SiteStyles, 39 page templates, seven AutoSites and 20Mb of rich media to enhance content of sites. The software is available for both Windows and Mac-intosh platforms, retailing at $895 each for the Windows 2.0 version and Macintosh 1.0 version (a Macintosh version 2.0 is yet to be released).
Coomans said Firmware provides technical support to its reseller base which consists of traditional software and computer resellers and VARs such as graphic design houses that create Web sites for clients and also sell NetObjects Fusion enabling the client to update the site easily.
