For resellers looking for a tool to assist in the WAN network analysis business, Network General Australia has released the WAN Sniffer Analyser NB for PC-based notebook computers.
Designed to quickly pinpoint problems with WAN connections and assist in troubleshooting tasks, the WAN sniffer is able to decode WAN frames and encapsulated LAN traffic across a WAN. Network General says that by allowing administrators to view LAN communications from a WAN Internetworking perspective the device enables them to quickly determine whether a problem is in the WAN service, the router, the logical communications path or the application. The WAN Sniffer Analyser NB can isolate LAN protocol problems over WAN Internetworks including traditional router-based interfaces, digital transport links and Frame Relay services. Interchangeable hardware interface modules provide T1, E1, RS and V.xx interfaces, with ISDN support to follow.
The device itself connects to a standard notebook PC via a standard PC Card Ethernet card, and carries an estimated price of $13,000.
