Xircom establishes Australian subsidiary

Vendor of PC Card products Xircom has established an Australian subsidiary - Xircom Australia, following significant market share and revenue growth in the Australian and New Zealand markets.

According to Xircom, Australian and New Zealand sales comprised 44 per cent of its Asia-Pacific business during the fiscal year in 1996.

Pieter Vanderschaar, country manager of Australia and New Zealand, said the move signals growth in the notebook market and consequently PC cards as "more and more people are moving away from desktop PCs and putting notebooks on their desk", he said.

The subsidiary has doubled its numbers, with two full-time technical support staff and the recruitment of more sales staff. "We're looking to beef up local sales and support, we'll have more feet on the street talking to resellers. We don't sell direct, we sell through a distribution channel, Tech Pacific and CHA, but we do go in and work with the resellers quite closely to close deals," said Vanderschaar.
