Express Data wants all you resellers out there to go back to school, by giving away $500,000 worth of accredited Microsoft training in its "Skill Up!" promotion.
For each $5000 spent until June 20 on certain Microsoft products - NT Server, SMS, SQL Server, Exchange, SNA, Backoffice, and Proxy Server - resellers will go into the draw to win one of 10 five-week Microsoft certified systems engineer courses, or one of 150 five-day training course vouchers. Products under the Microsoft Open License Program are also included (see story ARN March 19, p5).
For every $50,000 purchase, in addition to entering the draw ($50,000 equals ten entries) the reseller automatically receives a $1000 training voucher. All training courses will be provided by Com Tech Education Services in every capital city of Australia.
"The reason we put this promotion together specifically focusing on education is because of the fast-paced change in the industry. There is a significant requirement to continually upgrade skill sets within the reseller base," said Ross Cochrane, national sales and marketing director for Express Data.
"We think this is a way that we can impact the resellers' real costs - training costs to keep their people's skill sets and accreditations up to date."
The training courses, he said, will enable some resellers that do not have Microsoft accreditation to gain it, and others to update their accreditation.
"For someone who has that skill set, that accreditation, it immediately puts a lot of credibility behind them," he said. "As a distributor we rely very much on the channel for repeat business, and the better skilled they are, the more successful they are at running their business, and the better opportunity we have to sell them more product and the same for the vendor, Microsoft."
Services a reseller can provide after completing the training courses include: consulting, implementation, administration, and ser-ver management relating to Microsoft products. Having accreditation gives the reseller an opportunity to leverage more than the product sale, but also ancillary products and services, Cochrane says.
He said Microsoft statistics reveal that for every dollar spent on pro-duct, there is around five dollars available for ancillary services and products.
"There is a significant opportunity if you have those skills on board to take up some of those ancillary dollars available, so more than just selling the product and walking away, selling the product and ensuring that you pick up everything else that goes with that product - products and services."
Resellers may also include the training vouchers in bids or sell them to end-user customers.
