We lost one of the gentlepeople of this industry last week, with the passing of journalist Derril "Doc" Farrar. Doc was far from a techo, turned journalist, like so many of us. He had come up through the ranks of traditional print journalism in Australia since the mid-1950s, having worked on most major daily papers in Sydney. He did stints overseas, on TV and in PR, but in this industry we remember him for his time on IT publications. He first worked on the weekly Computing, moving on to IDG as features editor. Doc then went on to write a number of feature articles for Australian Reseller News this year.
We will remember Doc because he never wrote a story about uninteresting technology, but rather about the interesting people behind the technology. He wouldn't even try to write about anything he found dull. Doc was a character in the best sense of the word. We remember Doc, and our thoughts go to his wife Sandra and son Matthew.
