IBM, Telstra and Lend Lease venture forms network services company

IBM Australia, Telstra and Lend Lease have announced an IT and telecommunications alliance that will see the creation of a new network services company - Advantra.

With the new alliance and Telstra's involvement, the previous joint venture between IBM and Lend Lease, known as ISSC, has become IBM Global Services Australia.

Advantra will manage the delivery of IBM Global Services' networking services.

According to Frank Blount, Telstra's CEO, Advantra will provide "network-based solutions to major business customers".

Advantra's staff will include 300 previously employed by Telstra and 130 formerly from ISSC.

Telstra will hold 50 per cent, the greatest equity in the new company, IBM 30 per cent and Lend Lease 20 per cent.

As a result of the deal, IBM Global Services Australia will be expanded to 5000 employees, 2100 of which will be Telstra staff.
