High-end printer manufacturer Kyocera is continuing with the roll-out of its distribution strategy by appointing new partners in two states. Compu Wholesale in WA and BMS Technology in SA join Queensland's IT&PC in distributing the Kyocera range.
Kyocera managing director David Finn said a further appointment is likely in Victoria, and said negotiations are proceeding with a national distributor to complete coverage.
Finn said appointing the appropriate distributors is an important part in his company's move towards a two-tier reseller strategy. He said his focus has been on appointing distributors that can add value to the channel, and are willing to take on channel support.
"It gives us coverage without getting into the broad-based distribution companies that operate on very thin margins," Finn said. "I want to leave a margin so that the distributor makes a profit to support the product. That's the key."
BMS is already well versed in the intricacies of the printer market, through working with most of the leading brands. Managing director John Reid said around 70 per cent of BMS' business is in printers.
Reid believes taking on Kyocera provides his company with an entree into the high end of the printer business. The company is expected to have Kyocera product in stock this month.
