Visio has released version 5.0 of its diagramming and CAD products - Visio Standard, Visio Technical and Visio Professional - which will be available at the end of this month.
In Australia the company's focus will centre on Visio Standard, which company officials told Reseller News has been lagging behind in market share.
"With this launch we are not focusing on Technical or Professional at all; what we've been lacking is the standard business and diagramming product," said Angus Robertson, Visio's business development manager.
Visio Standard was originally launched by its previous distributor in October 1995, six months before Visio set up an office in Australia. The marketing plans were already in full swing, Robertson said, and when he first began with the company in March 1996, the focus was on the release of Visio Technical.
Robertson said Visio's Technical and Professional CAD products have been quickly taken up in the market, while its business diagramming tool has been overlooked.
He estimates Visio holds 15 per cent of the market while its competitor, Micrografx, owns 60 to 70 per cent in that particular category. "In 12 to 18 months time, I hope that is turned around," Robertson said.
