Gartner beefs up reseller research

The Gartner Group is moving to step up its research programs aimed at resellers in the run up to its annual symposium in Australia - Symposium/ITxpo 97.

Being held in Brisbane from 15Ð17 October, the event aims to bring together more than 1000 people from the end-user, vendor and reseller communities in the IT industry.

"We recognise that many resellers face the same challenges as end users - keeping up with technology, leading among those challenges," said Bob Hayward, vice president of Asia-Pacific services for Gartner Group.

The market research company has about 300 client organisations in Australia - about 80 of them are claimed to be in the top 100 end-user IT organisations.

Gartner Group is continuing to separately brand its Dataquest research service that is aimed at PC resellers.

For resellers, the symposium should represent a good opportunity to "road test" new products from leading vendors during product education sessions.

Vendors exhibiting at the symposium include Borland International, Cabletron, Cisco, EMC Corporation, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Microsoft and Progress Software.
