Mystery surrounds Canon's Victorian movements

Reports obtained by ARN last week that Canon had offered its Victorian staff in the printer/consumable/camera division voluntary redundancy packages, have been denied by company officials.

Several competing distributors were rumoured to be "eyeing-off" that market space, following reports that the vendor was planning to conduct its direct sales operations for Victoria out of NSW.

A spokesman for Canon last week denied that a large redundancy plan for the printer/consumable/camera division was in place, and added that a planned exodus of Victoria could be no further from the truth.

"We're going through a little restructure," he said. "What this restructure does is allows us to just move the business from one position to another, and within this restructure we've offered redundancy to some of the people who may not fit the new structure."

However, the spokesman was quick to stipulate that the number of redundancies being offered is minimal.
