Miss Pentium, take a letter

IBM has once again dropped the price of its voice recognition software, with one version retailing for less than $100. The products are Simply Speaking ($99 RRP) and Simply Speaking Gold ($199 RRP). They both promise levels of accuracy of around 95 per cent and a vocabulary of 30,000 English words and room for 27,000 extra words. The packs come with a headset/boom microphone unit. As well as directly converting the spoken word to text in an application such as a word processor, the package recognises most system commands.

System requirements are well within the range of modern PCs. They are: Win 95 or NT; 16Mb RAM and 38Mb or 70Mb of hard disk space respectively. The product has 30 days free support. Speaking Gold also records the spoken input to help correct misinterpreted text at a later time. IBM Tel 13 2426 or your favourite IBM software distributor.
