It's shake-up and shake-out time at two of the leading networking companies, 3Com and Novell, as the former consolidates and the later beefs up its channel strategy.
The finalisation of 3Com's takeover of US Robotics has seen the departure of John Halliwell from the position of 3Com Australia's managing director, and the installation of Dennis Rosler from the local US Robotics operation as the new company's head of its client access business unit.
The client access business largely comprises the old US Robotics business of volume products.
The other side of the new company, enterprise and server business unit - Halliwell's old stamping ground - is without a head.
Around the corner from 3Com in North Sydney, Novell has dropped the other shoe in its bid to generate more pull from its customers through the channel with another new appointment and a promotion.
These follow on the heels of Steve Martin's recent appointment to the newly created position of channels program sales manager.
Novell has promoted Malcolm Pooley to channel partner manager for Australia.
Rajeev Mitroo, Novell's distribution partner manager, has added responsibilities for OEMs, which also includes the business management of the company's distributors.
