DataPac sale expected to benefit channel

Citrix Systems has quickly moved to consolidate its position in the Asia-Pacific region with the acquisition of its major distributor and OEM, DataPac Australasia.

Fort Lauderdale-based Citrix opened an office here last month to further boost support for its WinFrame series of thin-client/server software products.

It will be paying about $US5 million for the assets, technology and operations of DataPac - in effect taking over the entire DataPac operation.

This will give the company a walk-up start to an Australasian distribution and support operation for its products, and a springboard for a push into the Asia-Pacific market.

"This is good news for the 100 plus resellers of WinFrame and DataPac products in Australia," said Bjorn Engelhardt, sales and marketing manager for DataPac.

"Citrix wanted to acquire key technologies we developed at DataPac, and in exchange our resellers will get closer to the entire Citrix support operation," said Engelhardt.

Roger Roberts, president and CEO of Citrix Systems, said that the Asia-Pacific region is a strategic market for Citrix.
