AOL keeps local office under wraps

As reported by Reseller News in the October 8 issue (see page three) the much-maligned Internet service provider America Online (AOL) and German media company Bertelsmann AG announced last week their intentions to form a joint venture that will offer AOL to Australian users sometime next year.

Sources revealed that Bertelsmann, which already has a joint venture with AOL in Europe, will make an initial investment of between $US19 million and $US29 million to fund the launch of AOL in Australia.

AOL will contribute technology, experience in interactive services and content to the deal, while Bertelsmann brings a solid market presence in Australia, according to the companies.
