Winners and losers

True story. A reseller contacted Microsoft to become a Microsoft Certified Reseller, and order a Microsoft NT 4 Server NFR kit. However, it was sent out a NT 4 Server Upgrade. So the organisation contacted Microsoft and asked for the correct package.

A few days later, another package arrived. Great. Or so it thought. Only problem - it was NT 3.51.

So the dealer contacted Microsoft again, and after several apologies and wasted time, was promised the correct NT 4 Server would be sent.

A few days later, another package arrived. Great. Or so it thought. Only problem - it was NT 4 - and Workstation, not full, and Upgrade, not full.

The organisation in question is still waiting for the real package!!

System integrator Praxa has picked up a lucrative contract with Queensland's Information Industries Branch (IIB), a leading government initiative.

The IIB is part of the Department of Tourism, Small Business and Industry. It provides access to market and technical information that makes product development and marketing activities more effective.

Among other feats, Praxa upgraded the IIB's server environment, deployed a standard desktop operating environment based on Windows 95 and Microsoft Office, upgraded desktop hardware, and gave staff access to an intranet.

Of course, IIB is jumping for joy after inking the deal - it expects to save at least $1 million over the next three years.

IDG Communications' Web site (www.idg. com.au) has been nominated as a final four contender in the "Media Site" category for the Australian Financial Review and Telstra Australian Internet Awards.
