Antivirus and network management specialist McAfee last week announced that it has acquired its Australian master agent, the Paradigm Agency, for an undisclosed amount.
The buyout follows on the heels of McAfee's recent acquisition of Network General in the US with the new conglomerate renamed Network Associates.
Asia-Pacific director of sales and operations, James Lalonde, says McAfee's corporate strategy is to use the agent system to test the market before commencing full operations.
When the process works well, McAfee usually buys the business.
Lalonde says McAfee Australia will grow existing distributor relationships and expand its retail presence.
Moving away from direct model
"We will turn our current sales force into a relationship-type sales force. They'll keep their relationship with the end users, but the actual sales will go through the channel and move away from the direct model," he said.
The formation of McAfee Australia has coinci-ded with the launch of the Anti-Virus Emergency Response Team (AVERT).
Lalonde said Paradigm has worked in this capacity for a number of years but now will be recognised as AVERT because of the formation of McAfee Australia.
