Dutch service giant Pink Elephant has set up its first Asia-Pacific operation in Sydney.
Pink Elephant Australia director Bert Hesker said the operation was established to provide international coverage for its clients.
Pink Elephant is part of the Roccade Informatica Group, one of Europe's largest computer service organisations.
The company's Australian operations will provide IT service management services including IT education courses, consultancy services and PC/network support.
"We're hoping to find customers in large insurance companies, large banks, government organisations and we also hope to find business with some companies we have done business with in the Netherlands," Hesker said.
Pink Elephant will be looking at ways to tie its official sponsorship of the Royal Dutch Rowing Association into the company's planned promotional activities in the lead up to the 2000 Olympics in Sydney.
Hesker says Australia was selected because it offers a similar cultural environment to the Netherlands and the markets are a comparable size.
"One other reason being the availability of highly educated staff compared to other countries," Hesker said.
Pink Elephant Australia will create between 300 and 400 jobs over a three year period, with no more than eight people bought over from the Netherlands.
"We're not really looking for experienced IT people, we want highly educated people with a degree who have proven they have a good brain."
Pink Elephant will also be looking to team up with suppliers. Hesker said the company would be looking for VARs on a non-exclusive basis. Under such an arrangement, Pink Elephant would supply the training and the VAR would provide the hardware and software.
