TDK has released the Global Freedom 5660, a 56Kbps fax/modem PC Card that features Rockwell's newly ratified K56flex technology.

The Global Freedom 5660, allows users to connect to phone lines around the world using TDK's internal data authentication algorithm (DAA). It also operates at up to 56Kbps when downloading data from a similarly equipped Internet or intranet server.

The Global Freedom 5660 includes standard 14.4Kbps send/receive fax capabilities, data compression, error correction, automatic sleep mode and a five-year warranty. The product additionally supports enhanced V.34 (33.6Kbps) data transfer for upstream operations.

According to Dennis O'Sullivan, TDK's general manager of sales and marketing, the release of the Freedom 5660 represents the start of a series of product announcements TDK will make over the coming months to capitalise on the ratified 56Kbps standard.

The TDK Global Freedom 5660 has an RRP of $499 and is available through TDK's distributor, Advanced Portable Technologies.
