HP support drives BackOffice defacto standard push

Hewlett-Packard and Microsoft have joined forces to bring two new support offerings for mid to high level equipment, giving HP distributors and resellers an extra selling point for high level equipment.

The partnership is part of Microsoft's aim to establish BackOffice as the server platform of choice for the enterprise market, said Robert Vogler, Microsoft support director.

HP NT business development manager, Myles Harper, said HP's multi-vendor support made the service even more attractive to clients. HP is an authorised support agent for Novell, SAP, Lotus, Oracle, Netscape and Cisco, among others. Harper said the service will operate using HP's existing support structure and staff.

The Microsoft Authorised Support offering is modelled after Microsoft's Premier Support Service, but aimed at users who require less frequent service. MAS users are eligible for support on 75 "incidents" per year. Harper said the key for the MAS was its position and price as a "middle range" service.

Harper said he hoped to offer the services through HP's resellers by the end of this year.
