Digital breaks new ground with PC ServiceCentres

Digital will enter unexplored territory next week with the opening of its new PC ServiceCentre in Sydney as part of the global standardisation of its worldwide service division.

Formerly known in Australia as PC PitStop, these centres offer the SOHO market access to equipment repairs, upgrades and other kinds of support that would not otherwise be available to them.

The centres cater for users who no longer have a warranty on their product or do not want to have the expense and administration of a maintenance contract.

According to Susan Alexander, Digital's Multivendor Customer Services marketing manager for Asia-Pacific, the centres will have little impact on the reseller channel because the SOHO market is not commonly serviced by the channel beyond the warranty period.

Alexander said customers feel comfortable with the Service-Centres because of their familiar retail environment which is backed by the expertise of one of the largest global service organisations in the world.

Currently there are around 150 PC ServiceCentres worldwide. In Australia, Digital plans to have at least one centre in each capital city and more than one if there is a requirement. Alexander said Digital is in the process of finalising centres in New Zealand.
