RentSmart debuts Web-based rental service

It was an inevitable move, but Perth-based rental finance company RentSmart is said to be the first company to begin trials of an Internet-based approvals service.

Unveiled at PC IT 98 in Sydney this week, the new service -- known as SmartNet -- will allow RentSmart customers apply for rental finance quotations and approval directly through the Net.

Initially the service will operate as an adjunct to RentSmart's fax and telephone-based approval systems, enabling customers to apply online and receive a response within 24 hours.

If the trials yield encouraging results, RentSmart hopes that the investigations into online approvals will be successful, and enable a move to a full commercial basis inside six months.

For RentSmart managing director, Ned Montarello, SmartNet is about making renting computer equipment easier, from a single point of contact.

"Both systems will help slash the amount of paperwork involved for all concerned," Montarello said. "SmartNet is also going to help free up salespeople's time as they'll easily be able to juggle customers in their store, sitting some in front of Internet machines to complete the on-screen application and quotation forms, while they handle other customers' queries."

SmartNet can be accessed via Phone: (08) 9481 6600
