Compaq Computer and Digital today confirmed that the US Federal Trade Commission has requested additional information regarding Compaq's proposed $US9.6 billion acquisition of Digital.
Spokespeople for both companies characterised the request as routine but would not detail the specifics of the FTC's interest.
"We feel that this is a normal course of action by the FTC and both companies are just trying to reply as quickly as possible to the request," said a Compaq spokeswoman who asked not to be identified.
Both spokespeople also said that the request would probably not change the time-frame of Compaq's acquisition of Digital, which was first announced in late January.
"We don't anticipate that this will delay the merger and still expect it to close by the end of the second quarter," said Shannon Lapierre, a Digital spokeswoman.
The FTC does not comment on its requests for information.
