Antivirus software - a business not a science

Antivirus software - a business not a science

In the battle for the hearts and minds of customers and channel partners, enterprise-focused antivirus software company Sophos is looking to gain ground on the back of its business model rather than its technology.

And as Jan Hruska, the company's technical director, pointed out, there's nothing spared on the technology. `We're an antivirus company, it's all we do' - and the product was designed and developed with networks in mind.

Hruska was in Australia recently to promote the latest features and spoke to ARN while he was attending the recent Comdex Sydney tradeshow.

Together with Sophos Australia's head, Richard Baldry, the two were keen to emphasise the company's commitment to building its Australian channel with a system of residual payments to the resellers.

Hruska agreed that selling water purifiers is analogous to antivirus software, and that water purifiers are generally sold on their capacity to remove undesired elements.
