Campbell's Quantum connection

Campbell's Quantum connection

The lure of high-volume sales and international exposure were the catalysts for i.t.connXions' ex-national sales and marketing manager Neill Campbell to cross the boards to hard drive maker Quantum.

Now in his new position as channel manager for the Australia/New Zealand region, Campbell took time out last week to reflect on his move from the distribution game into the world of tight margins and stiff competition.

"I've been in distribution for a long time," he said. "Quantum offered a high-volume sales opportunity; it is an international company and a market leader, and they are positioned very well for future growth.

"I saw those as very positive benefits to joining the company. They work on an Asia-Pacific basis rather than just a country basis so that's very rewarding as well, in terms of gaining valuable contact with those in Asia."

Benefits galore

Campbell said Quantum's coup in appointing ex-Seagate managing director Paul Kruss as country manager of Australia and New Zealand is testament to the fact that the Australian and New Zealand hard drive markets can stand on their own two feet. And, according to some pundits, Kruss' defection could be a case of picking the best horse for the course.

"We're starting to see a pick up in the market. We'll go well at picking up market share," Campbell said.

For Quantum's channel partners, Campbell expects big things.

"We are certainly looking to grow our channel partners' business. Unlike Seagate, we don't go direct to the market so our channel partners can expect an increase in sales and some very good programs and initiatives to come forward," he said.
