Ingram Asia-Pacific's discussions with Apple Asia-Pacific about distribution will not affect Australia, according to Apple's outgoing vice president, Steve Vamos.
A story which has been circulating last week suggested that Apple and Ingram's Singapore offices had been in discussion about the latter company taking over Apple Australia's distribution responsibilities. Ingram's president for Asia-Pacific Greg Spierkel told ARN that he had discussed "taking over specific product lines" in South Asia, and that Australia had been hinted at as a possible future development.
Vamos categorically denied that the discussions had included Australia.
Speaking directly to ARN, he said: "Australia is an entirely different kettle of fish to South Asia." To the suggestion that the move had been instigated by him, Vamos replied: "I am not going to be with this company very much longer, so it's very unlikely that I would suddenly decide to implement a new strategy when I'm about to leave."
