Xylan has signed training specialist Milcom Communications to provide training for its channel partners in Australia and New Zealand.
Milcom will offer Xylan Technical Certification courses, which have previously only been available in America, Europe and Asia.
David Keane, managing director of Xylan Australia/New Zealand, said Milcom would lay the foundations for "new kinds of training courses further down the track".
He said Milcom's experience in telecommunications training set it apart for Xylan's requirements. "We're really coming from a telcos world, rather than the PC side," he said. Milcom is the largest private telecommunications training provider in Australia.
Xylan technical certification is a benchmark that measures and recognises switching expertise. It gives network experts the skills to expand functionality, increase capacity and deliver stability across networks.
Keane said the advantages for the channel were twofold. First, he said, partners would have access to the same training they would otherwise have to source overseas.
He said Xylan would work with the distribution channel to put the training programs on the price list.
Milcom will initially offer two courses, Xylan Certified Switch Specialist and Xylan Certified Switch Expert.
The cost of training will be around $400 per day, Keane said, and would take place in Milcom facilities around Australia. The first course is expected to take place in late May.
