Express Data has picked up the distribution rights for Sirius Technologies' range of NetComm modems and communications products.
The relationship makes the NetComm range available to the 3000-plus Express Data resellers.
NetComm is part of the newly formed Sirius Technologies group of communications brands. Sirius is the country's largest provider of modem and communications products, and includes products from the likes of Banksia, Dataplex and Simple Computing. Express Data has carried Banksia since October last year.
According to David Stewart, Sirius Technologies' managing director, the agreement came at a critical time.
"1998 should prove to be the year of the V.90 modem. The ITU's draft V.90 standard eliminated much of the existing market confusion and reassured business customers, and has generated a marked rise in orders for 56Kbps modems," he said.
Express Data's general manager of sales and marketing, Ross Cochrane, said the modems were complementary to the range of product it carries, and would form part of the networking and communications solution.
"With 56K now hitting the market there is a significant opportunity for upgrade and new users to be targeted by the reseller community," he said.
Cochrane said Express Data's training and advice would help resellers with building solutions and delivering value-added services.
