Rapidly expanding distributor Edge Technology has been declared overall winner in the Company of the Year category at this year's Business Sydney NSW 500 Awards.
According to Greg Schroeder, Edge Technology's creative marketing manager, the awards come at a great time as the company looks to consolidate its latest expansion into North America. Already operating in 12 countries, Edge recently opened four branches in the US and three in Canada. Since 1989, it has grown from a husband and wife team into a company that is turning over a billion dollars annually.
"Despite now being a global organisation, we are very proud of our origins and push the Australian heritage angle fairly strongly in our promotions. Receiving such highly regarded recognition in the country where our skills were developed gives us a springboard for further overseas expansion," he said.
When questioned by ARN about the possible impact of overseas distribution companies moving into Australia, Schroeder said: "Our primary target within the channel is the smaller computer dealer -- an area that other distributors tend not to be very good at addressing. We are moving in totally different markets to them and are probably growing faster than they are.
"We are a very sales-orientated organisation with a strong focus on branch level activity, which is why we have been able to expand so quickly. Opening up a new branch doesn't require any massive infrastructure investment on our part."
Each year, Business Sydney newspaper surveys 10,000 senior managers, executives and company directors to arrive at the final list of 500 candidates. To meet selection criteria organisations must be flexible, dynamic in providing products to the market place and offer a broad range of services, according to Business Sydney.
