IDC has predicted that the electronic network security market will be worth $US1.2 billion in Asia-Pacific by the year 2000.
Security Dynamics is riding this wave of increasing worldwide demand, reporting revenues last year in excess of $US140 million. Now it's making a concerted push in Australia.
Currently selling product in Australia through distributor Megatec, Security Dynamics recently added renowned network systems integrator ComTech to its SecurWorld accredited partners program.
Last week ARN cornered Arthur Coviello, Security Dynamics' chief operations officer, who said the company was "very bullish on the Australian market".
"We think we ought to be able to build Australian revenues up to $US8- to 10 million in the not too distant future. To achieve that we needed to have some high level partners in place," Coviello said.
The ComTech agreement will complement the two-tiered distribution already performed by Megatec allowing Security Dynamics to get straight into large organisations which are looking to include security as part of their overall networking solution.
"The type of end users ComTech will be supplying have offices right across Australia and we needed a systems integrator with the size and experience to properly support their enterprise installations," he said.
Megatec's distribution of product and services also offers tremendous opportunity to integrators further down the reselling chain. As security issues are applicable to every organisation which operates an open network, consulting services, implementation and training offer potential to all sorts of value-added resellers on the lookout for that competitive advantage.
"Security Dynamics solutions represent more of an integrated approach to network security and this is where the channel can be extremely strong, viable and helpful for us as well as creating a wonderful commercial opportunity for themselves," Coviello said.
