Dell has taken umbrage at the pending Compaq/Digital takeover and ended its worldwide service agreement with Digital.
Effective immediately, international giant Unisys will provide Dell with a full range of product service and support under the Unisys global Strategic Service Partnership program.
Under the three-year agreement, Unisys will provide on-site maintenance and repair for Dell's commercial and public sector customers in the US, Canada, Europe, Africa and the Asia-Pacific region.
Brad Murdoch, general manager of Unisys global customer services, said some countries will receive service from Wang, while others will be serviced by Unisys. Dell customers in Australia will receive service from Unisys.
Murdoch said in Australia, Unisys will provide add-on services for Dell, including rollouts, configurations and network management.
Of Dell's decision to drop Digital, Murdoch said: "Basically, the essence of it is with the Compaq and Digital merger taking place. Compaq is its (Dell's) number one competitor."
Murdoch said Dell will retain its call centre, with electronically- logged calls by Unisys.
