Compaq yesterday announced the release of five servers designed for Web computing.
The ProLiant Web Servers are a "far more cost-effective way to base business solutions on the Web", according to Compaq's Internet solutions manager, Steve Lambley.
He said the servers enable easy Web site design, application development and hosting.
"The ProLiant Web Servers enable our customers to easily and simply implement Web applications and tap into all the possibilities the Internet has to offer," he said.
The pre-configured servers come standard with Microsoft software (NT Server 4.0, Site Server 3.0, FrontPage 98 and NT 4.0 Option Pack) and are fully tested to make a solution that can be deployed quickly and with confidence.
The servers are targeted at users from small to medium businesses up to enterprise users, including ISPs.
Lambley said Compaq was "having discussions" with four major Australian ISPs, and aimed to have every ISP in Australia using the high-end servers.
The ProLiant Web Servers are priced from $9690 to $38,995.
