Resellers can expect to bring in higher margins from Compaq's newly announced ProLiant Web Servers, according to the company's Internet solutions manager, Steve Lambley.
He said while Compaq's margin will remain the same, there will be more margin for resellers in providing associated services and value-adds for the servers.
Based on industry-standard technology, the servers are targeted at users from small to medium businesses up to enterprise users, including ISPs.
Lambley said Compaq was "having discussions" with four major Australian ISPs, and aimed to have every ISP in Australia using the high-end servers.
The ProLiant Web Servers are a "far more cost-effective way to base business solutions on the Web", Lambley said. He said the servers enabled easy Web site design, application development and hosting.
The pre-configured servers come standard with Microsoft software (NT Server 4.0, Site Sever 3.0, Front Page 98 and NT 4.0 Option Pack) and are fully tested by Compaq.
The ProLiant Web Servers are priced from $9690 RRP to $38,995 RRP.
