3Com cuts Palm Pilot pricing to reach broader market

3Com has dropped the price of its Palm III and PalmPilot organisers by as much as 19 per cent in a bid to make them more affordable for the average consumer.

The amended pricing now sees 3Com's Palm III organiser priced at $699 RRP, down from $829, while the standard PalmPilot has been reduced to $559, down from $629.

According to Gerhard Rumpff, managing director of 3Com Australia and New Zealand, this latest price reduction has driven user demand which has forced 3Com to dramatically increase its volumes.

"As a result, we are able to pass these cost savings along to our customers," Rumpff explained.

"By reducing the price of the Palm III and PalmPilot professional edition products we are able to make handheld computing devices more affordable to a wider range of consumers."
