Data General is restructuring its global operations and will lay off 400 employees, the storage and enterprise software company said last week.
About 100 workers will transfer to the com-pany's Clariion Advanced Storage Division and various other facilities also will be merged, the company said in a statement. The Clariion Advanced Storage Division will receive increased sales and research funding for market fibre channel RAID (redundant arrays of inexpensive disks) storage products. The Clariion sales force will be increased as well.
The reorganisation is due in part to "constant margin pressure from competitors that use the lower-cost PC server distribution model", Ronald Skates, company president and chief executive officer, said in a statement.
