Sun, Netscape will both support Solaris browser

Sun Microsystems and Netscape Communications have teamed up on a software support agreement that is aimed at users running Netscape software on Sun's Solaris operating system.

The Sun Vendor Integration Program (VIP) will provide customers with a single point of contact for interoperability issues -- they don't have to figure out whether their problem is caused by the operating system or the software.

"When customers need help, they do not need to know if its a Netscape problem or a Sun problem -- they just call either one of us, and together we will solve the problem for them," said Netscape's vice president of customer satisfaction, Debby Meredith, in a statement.

The Sun VIP program is available to Sun customers with SunSpectrum Gold and SunSpectrum Platinum system support contracts. The technical support agreement will go into effect in North America and Europe beginning in August.
